Words and/or phrases that are used on the SBTL Website are explained below.

’Bots - Internet Robots are generally autonomous applications that are designed to crawl the web looking for information. 'Bots are the tools used by search engines to create indices for webpages. Some 'bots are nefarious and scan the web looking for email addresses to add to spam lists.

HVI - Human Verification Interface or Human Verification Images are uses to screen out ’bots. Some ’bots are nefarious and scan the web looking for forms to post data to in an effort to purposefully produce spam. An HVI tries to stump the ’bot by providing a difficult to interpret (from a computer's point of view) image with some data on it. The data is easily readable by a human but is hard for a computer to automatically interpret.
