Once again we had 132 shooters this past month for our South Bay shoot - this time at the Santa Clara County Facility (aka "Metcalf"). We broke previous attendance records for a South Bay shoot at Metcalf - Mother Nature is treating us very kindly, especially compared to our windy start last year. The wonderful weather contributed to some really great scores. Congratulations to all of our winners!
Welcome to all our new shooters: Carol Clark, David Fazekas, Brian Hughes, Craig Oku, and Dale Steffen. We look forward to seeing you as we continue the season.
Thanks to the County team for their efforts to host a quality shoot. All went well, including a quick mid-shoot trap repair, and finishing the shoot-offs under the lights.
We have some new help in the office and want to welcome Mike Ross and Buck Lyons Jr. Also, we think the attendance is up because of the great job our entire staff does running and managing the scoring and shoot-offs, not to mention the lovely trophies! Bob Graves and Warren Fay have lined up some great awards for this year - plan to come out this season and win your share!
For you new shooters, we have SBTL 25 straight and 50 straight pins for you to commemorate those achievements ... just drop by the office on shoot day and claim your pin.
One of the wonderful things about Trap is that it is an outdoor sport. Since it’s outdoors, we get a variety of environmental conditions - wind and sunlight - as well as a great amount of diversity in backgrounds at the clubs where South Bay shoots. As the day warms up the traps and the wind picks up, the targets can become more challenging. That said, all the clubs work hard to hoop and adjust the speed on the targets to meet ATA specifications. Please bear with us and our host clubs as the environment changes during the day.
We hope to see you at Sunnyvale on April 9th. We start registration at 8 am and shooting at 9 am - an hour earlier than the other clubs to meet their 6 pm stop shooting curfew on the weekends. We’ll be starting 5 squads for singles - so don’t be late!
Dennis and Warren A carry-over occurred in March, since all shooters forfeited for A Doubles. Doyle Mack, Dave Brocious, and Mike Garden will compete for the trophy based on the carry-over rules in April. Forfeit rules will re-apply if a shooter does not shot the doubles event.
Remember: The tournament at Sunnyvale starts 1 hour earlier.
